　　This application note is a user guide for the 1200V CoolSiC™ MOSFET in TO-247 3pin/4pin evaluation board. It explains the board’s hardware and provides detailed instructions on how to use it for addressing various measurement tasks. Finally, practical examples demonstrate the performance of the MOSFET.

　　The board described is an evaluation board dedicated for laboratory environment only. It operates at high voltages and must only be operated by qualified and skilled personnel familiar with all applicable safety standards.

　　The evaluation board is delivered together with spare parts and complete ocumentation in an environmentally friendly carton box as illustrated in Figure 1. As depicted, the carton box contains:

　　Evaluation board EVAL-IGBT-1200V-TO247PLUS has been developed to be a simple but accurate universal test platform for 1200V IGBTs in all TO-247 package variants, i.e. standard TO-247 as well as TO-247PLUS packages with three as well as four leads.

　　The board allows evaluating the advantages provided by the larger lead frame area of the TO-247PLUS package as well as the performance improvement given by the Kelvin emitter connection of the TO-247PLUS 4pin package.

　　Two different modes of operation can be realized with this board. It can be used to investigate switching behavior and measure IGBT and diode losses at different test conditions. Also the board can be used in continuous operation. From the basic phase-leg topology, it is possible to configure it as a step-down or step-up DC-DC converter.
