  The Atmel® ATA5830 is a universal, highly integrated, low-power UHF ASK/FSK single chip RF transceiver. This IC contains the RF part, digital baseband and the AVR® microcontroller core. The core is a low-power CMOS 8-bit microcontroller with enhanced RISC architecture.

  The transceiver is designed for ISM frequency bands in the 310MHz to 318MHz, 418MHz to 477MHz, and 836MHz to 928MHz ranges respectively while featuring a high degree of integration, which reduces the number of external elements. Outstanding RF performance and sophisticated baseband signal processing enables robust wireless communication.

  The receiving path of the IC is designed using super heterodyne architecture with an integrated low-IF double quadrature mixer. This architecture features high image rejection and excellent blocking performance. The transmission path is implemented in a closed loop fractional-N modulator with Gauss shaping and preemphasis functionality for high data rates. Its flexible, configurable baseband signal processing also allows the receiver to operate in several scanning, wake-up, and automatic self-polling scenarios. During scanning the IC can seek specific message content (IDs) and in case of a valid telegram the data is stored in the FIFO data buffer.

  The two completely different receiving baseband paths enable receiving and processing of two different incoming signals. The configuration of these signals can differ in modulation, data rate or wake-up scenario. The autonomous scanning of three different application channels with varying configuration is supported. The settings of the transceiver are stored in a 512-byte EEPROM. In spite of the internal microcontroller and 6-Kbyte flash for the customer application software, the device can be configured and accessed using an SPI interface. The debug wire and ISP interface are also available for programming purposes.
