Information

The Atheros AR9331 (Hornet) is a Wi-Fi System-On-Chip (WiSoC),typically used in access points and router platforms.

The Atheros AR1311 seems to be a newer revision of the AR9331, havingidentical pinout and complete software compatibility.

Seems to be a variant of Chip idea IP core. More information is needed.

MIMO

Note about antenna diversity and MIMO: strictly according to 802.11n nomenclature, this chip is 1x1:1,

since it has no maximum-ratio-combining (MRC) RX chains. However, the chip has two RX RF chains with

four analog (RF) combining methods, selected dynamically in real-time for each packet during reception,

resulting in performance much closer to MIMO 1x2:1 than MIMO 1x1:1 even though it's not full MIMO-MRC.

In this wiki, when the second RF chain and second RX antenna are both installed, the device is labeled

as 1x2:1, otherwise it's labeled 1x1:1.
