  The 6−pin PFC controller NCP1602 is designed to drive PFC booststages. It is based on an innovative Valley Synchronized frequencyFold−back (VSFF) method. In this mode, the circuit classicallyoperates in Critical conduction Mode (CrM) when Vcontrolvoltageexceeds a programmable value Vctrl,FF. When Vcontrolis below thispreset level Vctrl,FF, the NCP1602 (versions [B**] and [D**]) linearlydecays the frequency down to about 30 kHz until Vcontrolreaches theSKIP mode threshold. VSFF maximizes the efficiency at bothnominal and light load. In particular, the stand−by losses are reducedto a minimum. Like in FCCrMcontrollers, internal circuitry allowsnear−unity power factor even when the switching frequency isreduced. Housed in a TSOP6 package, the circuit also incorporates thefeatures necessary for robust and compact PFC stages, with fewexternal components.

  High Drive Capability: −500 mA/+800 mA

  VCC Range: from 9.5 V to 30 V

  Low Start−up Consumption for:

  [**C] & [**D] Versions: Low VccStart−up level (10.5 V)

  [**A] & [**B] Versions: High VccStart−up level (17.0 V)

  Line Range Detection for Reduced Crossover Frequency Spread

  160‐W, Wide Mains, PFC Stage Driven by the NCP1602 Evaluation Board NCP1602GEVBExtremelyslim, the NCP1602 evaluation board is designed to be lessthan 13 mm high. This low-profile PFC Stage is intended todeliver 160 W under a 390-V output voltage from a widemains input. This is a PFC boost converter as used in flatTVs, high power LED street light power supplies, andall-in-one computer supplies. The evaluation board embedsthe NCP1602 AEA-version which is powered by an externalVCC. With the help of an external dc source, apply a VCCvoltage that exceeds the NCP1602−AEA start-up level(18.2 V max) to ensure the circuit starts operating. The VCC operating range is from 9.5 V up to 30 V.
